Meet The Team…
Nicky is an enthusiastic fitness coach who participated in competitive sport from a young age, where she progressed to representing her County at Netball, Swimming and Tennis. She is also a qualified life guard, who has successfully competed in life saving competitions, as well RFU rugby coach, whose playing career was cut short by injury at the age of 35.
Following a successful and busy career in London, where she managed to combine playing competitive sport and raising a family, Nicky made the move north where she is currently employed as a Health Trainer, supporting people in east Durham to live a healthier life style and improve their overall well-being.
Nicky holds Level Three Diplomas in Fitness Instructing and Personal Training, and Anatomy and Physiology. She is experienced in gym-based exercise and is also qualified to design and deliver Circuit and Outdoor Boot Camp training, Gym-based Boxing, Kettlebell, Suspension, and gym-based cycle ‘spin’ classes. Nicky is accredited in health and safety in the fitness environment. She is also qualified to give advice on nutrition; a vital part of meeting our fitness goals. Nicky is a Champneys trained in Swedish Massage.
With a genuine interest in people and a passion for fitness and wellbeing, Nicky recognises the importance of understanding a client’s aspirations, needs and goals. As someone who leads a busy and active life, she has personal experience of how illness and injury can undermine and challenge a person’s desire and motivation to keep fit in mind and body. This has made her particularly aware of the need to inspire and facilitate exercise to encourage people, no matter what their circumstances, to make exercise a necessary and good habit in their lives.
Nicky has been described as a “friendly face, who encourages and inspires others to achieve their goals”, from young people learning to play rugby to less able-bodied people doing seated exercise. Since joining East Coast Fitness, Nicky has hit the ground running with early feedback stating that she was, “very understanding, encouraging and full of enthusiasm”.
Paul started with East Coast Fitness as one of Graham’s PT clients when he needed to improve his health. He put in a tremendous amount of work and went on to become one of Graham’s most successful PT clients ever, completely remodelling his lifestyle and totally rejuvenating his health.
Paul has taken part in East Coast Fitness Boot Camp sessions for over 2 years and know exactly what it’s all about. He is a friendly, approachable character and has a good rapport with all of the members.
When Paul was younger he struggled with his weight, reaching almost 19 stone at his biggest. He managed to lose 7 stone but never really maintained it well or done a lot of exercise. In 2008 Paul had a massive acute pancreatitis attack due to a gall stones blockage that killed half of his pancreas. Due to this Paul developed type 2 diabetes in 2012 and that was the kick start he needed to change his lifestyle. He started to eat better and fell in love with exercise. He has managed to keep his diabetes under control and his doctor even took him off the medication for high blood pressure and cholesterol.
Paul loves a challenge and has walked the full length of Hadrian’s Wall, cycled the Coast2Coast twice, hiked up and down mountains all over the world including New Zealand, America, Australia and Iceland and you’ll often find him taking part in running events. He loves the outdoors, especially hiking, kayaking and mountain biking and would rather be in a national park than a city any day.
Paul is currently at college working towards his personal trainer qualification. He takes health and fitness very seriously and is very passionate about helping other people succeed. He has ‘walked the walk’ and is ready to help other people turn their lives around too.
